Our Services
Annual health checks are recommended for our pets. These check-ups can identify disease early, resulting in improved longevity and quality of life.
Examples:
Blood testing in senior pets can result in early identification of metabolic diseases such as diabetes or renal insufficiency, resulting in improved outcomes and treatments
Early identification of osteoarthritis can slow progression and improve comfort
Heart disease can be picked up early and managed accordingly
Regular dental checks can maintain oral health and prevent more complex issues in the long term
Annual vaccinations are recommended for all dogs, cats and rabbits. Vaccinations prevent infectious diseases, some of which can be fatal. The following vaccinations are recommended for each species:
Dogs – Distemper, Parvovirus, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Bordetella
Cats – Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopaenia, Feline Leukaemia Virus
Rabbits – Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease and Myxomatosis
Regular parasite prevention is essential to protect your pets from parasites, some of which can infect humans and transmit diseases.
Adult Dogs and cats should receive worming treatment every 3 months.
Puppies and kittens should receive worming treatment every 2 weeks from birth until 12 weeks old and then every month until they are 6 months old.
All dogs and cats should be protected against fleas and ticks with monthly “spot-ons” or tri-monthly tablets.

The law states that all dogs should be microchipped and registered by 12 weeks of age.
We also recommend microchipping cats.
We recommend neutering all pets to prevent unwanted pregnancies and certain health issues later in life.
In females, neutering greatly reduces the incidence of mammary cancers and eliminates the risk of life-threatening uterine infections (pyometra).
In males, neutering prevents testicular cancers and reduces the risk of prostatic problems.
The ideal age to neuter depends on breed with larger breeds generally being neutered at an older age.

We are fully equipped to perform any test your pet requires. We have an in-house Abaxis blood analyzer, state of the art Examion digital x-ray processor and a Sonoscape ultrasound machine.
When your pet is with us for a surgical procedure, they will be treated with the utmost care. Our team has many years of experience performing a wide range of surgical procedures, including:
Neutering
Tumour and cancer surgeries
Soft-tissue surgeries
Orthopaedic surgeries such as cruciate ligament repairs, dislocations and fracture repairs
During surgery, a registered veterinary nurse will monitor your pet using advanced monitoring equipment.
We know that surgery can be a stressful experience for you and your pet. The team at Killester Vets strive to keep your pet as comfortable as possible during all procedures.
If you have questions about your pet’s surgery, please ask!
We believe that prevention is better than cure and that regular dental exams and treatment can help your pet maintain good oral health and more importantly keep them pain free. If you notice bad breath, heavy tartar build-up or red gums then it’s time for a check-up!
We hear the line “but he/she’s eating fine” all too often from pet owners whose pets are struggling with dental disease. Pets are programmed to survive, they don’t complain and are often suffering in silence. Regular dental check-ups are an essential part of your pet’s wellbeing.
We are fully equipped for routine prophylaxis (cleaning) and extractions as needed.
We realise that under certain circumstances it can be difficult to get your pet into the clinic. We offer house calls when it is possible for us to do so.
We can help with any travel requirements such as pet passport issuing, rabies vaccinations, blood tests etc.
We appreciate that the end of a pet’s life can be an extremely challenging time. We are here to help you navigate this with advice and support.
In recent times we have seen an increase in the number of specialist referral services available. At Killester Vets we have a good working relationship with these facilities. We can refer you in cases where specialist intervention is required.
